A running track
Providing a free track would help focus residents of Littlemoor on wellbeing and fitness - keeping residents healthy and saving on resources such as medical centres and dependency on medications. The benefits of fitness and exercise are well known and are publicised especially the positive impact on mental health.
Weymouth has a very active running community with over 400 people turning up for Parkrun every Saturday as well as hosting many events such as Iron Man and Weymouth half etc and hundreds of people run along the esplanade every day and lots of clubs in the area who organise C25K for free.
However the only track (which is beneficial for starters/recovery/ clubs) is the makeshift one by the park and ride which is not felt safe for single runners at night.
An organised lit track (like Yeovil) would provide a safe space for people to run especially in the winter months and could even be multi use as a pitch for other sports.
I think we need should use the money for a positive addition to Littlemoor, get residents out in the fresh air and into sports and fitness. Running is a low cost sport to take up and starts with one step.
