Community Power generation

Could we take inspiration from the Walthamstow Power Station Group who are creating power generation at within streets so that no one misses out. ABOUT POWER — POWER and initiatives closer to home like Energy Local Bridport – Dorset Community Energy where power generation is done at a much more local level that local people can buy into and benefit from. 

These are living examples of what can be done - we just need to scale them up within Dorset - this sort of initiative is perfect for local govt to lead and drive and could contribute massively to carbon reduction and future energy security. 

In the Walthamstow model - they look to generate power for a street and for everyone in it regardless of tenure so that those renting do not miss out. 

Energy price rises have been a big concern for many people over the last three years, particularly the most vulnerable. This sort of initiative meets objectives in relation to the climate agenda but also addresses issues of deprivation, social inequality and will help build social cohesion. There are also possible cross overs to economic regenerationand skills development initiatives too in terms of  solar panel production and installation firms etc. 

Some investment in community development workers could be vital in getting or replicating similar initiatives in the the town and villages of Dorset working with Dorset Community Energy and our communities.  

Village Halls and many of our schools have solar panels reducing their electricity bills - what an amazing contribution to Dorset would it be if we could trail blaze community power generation for people's homes.
