Keep protection of Dorset's environment as the 'Golden Thread'

The character and quality of Dorset's natural and cultural environment of its coast and countryside are key attributes that sustain business, attract visitors, and provide a high quality of place for residents to live. Protecting and sustaining the whole of the environment of the County, not just the Heritage Coast and National Landscapes, should run as a 'Golden Thread' through the Council's Plan.

All aspects of the Council's Plan should be evaluated for their ability to sustain, or enhance, Dorset's environment. Protection of the environment should, therefore, be included in the 'headline priorities'.

Why the contribution is important

The environment of Dorset, owing to its geographical, geological, and climatological characteristics, is unique. It is the fundamental factor contributing to the quality of human life in the County, helping sustain a long life expectancy, and attracting economic activities.

Once the character and quality of the environment has been lost it is lost for ever. Our children and grandchildren will not forgive us for destroying or concreting over the environment.
